Schmerikon Lachen

In beautiful weather we enjoy a breakfast buffet for the first time this week. But slowly we notice the exertions of the last hiking days and are glad that today we can manage a flatter stage in good weather. The Strandhotel is practically on the Way of St. James. Freshly strengthened and in a better mood than yesterday we start hiking. Passing the lido we reach the canalized Aabach. There we always cross other dogs while walking. So Ziva stays on the leash. Via the Linthweg we reach the Linthkanal. Now we follow this for a while. Fortunately no asphalt road. At the Grinaubrücke bridge we cross the Linth and come next to the road on a narrow hiking trail to Tuggen. There the path leads through narrow alleys to the village centre. In the village shop we buy today's lunch and at the catholic rectory we get a stamp again. The road now climbs again until we reach the edge of the village. Shortly before Siebnen we stop for lunch. In Siebnen we ask our way to the catholic parish office and get a stamp again. Parallel to Zürcherstrasse the path leads through a residential area. This means: narrow path past seats of detached houses. Over meadows we reach Galgenen. Unfortunately, we now take the asphalt road to Lachen again. We do not advance as fast as we thought. Under the motorway we reach the centre of Lachen. There we have a coffee and consider if we want to make the ascent to St. Meinrad. But since we have no idea if we can stay overnight there, we decide to continue walking only the next day. According to my accommodation list there is only one sleeping possibility in Lachen, but dogs are not allowed there. Sleeping in straw is also not up for discussion, so I call the Hotel Schiff in Pfäffikon. Fortunately there are still two single rooms that we reserve. So we take the train to Pfäffikon and look forward to a shower in our own room. But this room with lake view has its price (Fr. 139.-- incl. breakfast and dog). The lake invites for an evening walk and we have dinner at the lido. After a nightcap at the hotel we go to bed early.
