Livia with Kaya (from 15.06.18):

The sunny and warm forecast is right, so today we take a great hike in the shade and along the water under our feet.

We can park for free at Dukes, Sihlbrugg. The path is already well signposted from here and so we start the hike always close to the banks of the Sihl. The first few meters are along the Sihlstrasse, but soon the path turns left. On very hot days you can also drive here by car (free parking), but I can imagine that these are very popular.

From here on, we walk refreshingly in the shade of the trees and along the river Sihl. At the first bridge we go straight on. Surprised that nobody meets us in this paradise, this is probably due to the day of the week. In different blogs we read that here we have to walk through tunnels and past old gravestones. The path has been made quite new and now winds its way between Sihl and tunnel. We see practically no more gravestones. We enjoy the silence, the smell of the forest and stop at the benches to listen to the sound of the river - that's me. Kaya enjoys the constant cooling in the water. After about 1 hour there would be the possibility to turn off to the Bäsebeiz. We keep on walking, because we carry our provisions in our backpack and prefer the bench-climbing breaks. From Sihlmatt on the Sihlbed becomes narrower and narrower and wildly romantic, paradisiacal spots appear here, perfect for barbecues and swimming. We also enjoy our lunch break here (Restaurant Sihlbrugg would be about 15-20 minutes away from here). At the Sihl jump over the lattice bridge we walk in a fairytale forest along the Sihl again, this time downstream. On this side there are many more beautiful places to stay. Depending on the water level, larger gravel banks and/or small lagoons are visible. Here we also meet some more contemporaries. Via Sihlmatt at the Schiffli we cross the bridge where the same way leads us back to Sihlbrugg village / Dukes.

General note: it is not dangerous to swim in it, but you have to keep an eye on the current. And don't forget that the locks can be opened at any time of the year or day and floods can occur. Various signs point this out, as well as "Beware of falling rocks", which is an increased risk, especially after heavy rainy days.
