Livia with Thomas and Kaya (18.01.22):

What a wonderful day! Today we start a sledding pleasure of superlatives: the longest sledding trail of the region and magnificent panorama with lake view included.

From Beckenried the gondola takes us to Klewenalp at 1592 meters above sea level - high above the sea of fog towards the sun.

After a short walk in the direction of the Klewenkapelle (parallel to the ski slope), the first part of the sledging fun begins: around the Klewenstock, the trail continues to the Ängi valley. At the Ängi chairlift, a small ascent has to be mastered on foot. However, the effort is rewarded: Arriving at the Twäregg, the view is impressive with a clear view of the Schwyzer Mythen, Brunnen and the surrounding area.

Down the Twäregg the path winds through beautiful fir forests towards the Stockhütte. Here we stop and enjoy the great weather with the magnificent view before we tackle the last kilometers down to Emmetten (the last kilometer is possible oncoming traffic).

Unfortunately we don't make it all the way to the valley station Emmetten with the sled, the last meters are only doable on foot. Be sure to keep your time management under control better than we did and calculate enough time from the Stockhütte: we just miss the bus (which returns to Beckenried every hour) by a few minutes.

We return the rented sled at the valley station. If you want, you can also walk back to Beckenried within 1 hour. Since we have bought a day ticket, we take the gondola again to the top station in Beckenried and enjoy our après-sledding fun with the last rays of sun.

Watch out: every now and then you have to cross the ski slope or partly the slope leads a multiple use. We recommend the tour only on weekdays (otherwise too many people) and for experienced sledders (11km).

In Nidwalden there is a general leash obligation in the wild rest areas from December 1 or 15 to April 30, which in some areas extends into the summer months. In Nidwalden, dogs must be kept on a leash in the Lauelenegg-Nätschen, Arven-Schelgisee and Scheidegg wildlife areas until June 15.
