Brandenfels Cave - Tösswald

The White Woman and the Venedigermannli in the Mondmilchgubel

A Venedigermannli once came to father Oberholzer in the Sonnwies im Oberholz as night fell and said that he had read in his magic book that there was a rock at the back of the Töss that was closed with an iron door. Behind this door was buried a treasure.
Oberholzer looked at the male for a while and replied that he knew the rock well, that it was the Mondmilchgubel. The treasure digger then asked the Sonnenwiesler to show him the way there, that it should not be his fault. He should be there at twelve o'clock at night. Oberholzer did not think long, because he did not suffer from an abundance of treasures.
At the stroke of midnight, the two stood in front of the iron door. The Venetian interpreted to the companion that he should keep his mouth shut from now on, whatever might happen. Then he knocked three times on the door, which opened with a soft groan. A beautiful woman dressed in white stood in the entrance. She beckoned the two of them to follow her. She stopped at a black iron chest. On the lid was a hideous black poodle. The white woman chased it away, and the lid opened by itself. And what did they see? A whole chest full of gold pieces!
In great haste the Venetian filled his sack; no sooner had he stuffed it full than the lid snapped shut again and the dog sat on it again. During this time the farmer only ever looked at the beautiful woman; her sweet face moved him so much that he couldn't take his eyes off her. When the Venetian had gathered his things together, the white woman led her visitor to the door; suddenly the two of them were back in the open
and the door snapped shut: the Venetian had a sack of gold and the Sonnwiesler could suck his empty thumb. (Source: Book "Magic Zurich")
