Danielle with Robin, Marinette and Biora (from 20.05. & 27.05.2018):
With great weather conditions we started at 10.00h in the city of Biel/Bienne and from there we ran our first 1st stage of the pilgrimage which we divided into two parts. We parked our car at the valley station of the Magglingenbahn and walked the short ascending route with many stairs directly to the pavilion which is situated in an elevated position above Biel. It would be a great vantage point, if only the many trees and bushes were not so overgrown and blocked the beautiful view of Lake Biel. We continued on towards Vingelz and Tüscherz. A unique perspective with St. Peter's Island as the main protagonist prepares itself. The deep blue Lake Biel is from now on a constant companion. You walk along the vine path along the sun-drenched vineyards on the left bank of Lake Biel. Unfortunately, a large part of this hike takes place on asphalt roads. This hike is not recommended in summer or when it is over 26 degrees Celsius, as it is in our region. The sun burns directly on the vineyard slopes. This hike is highly recommended in autumn, when the vines are at their best. From time to time there is a well, but still water has to be taken along. At the weekend there are a lot of people and bikers on this route, so it is better to take a weekday. Once you arrive in Twann, the path leads down directly to the Bielersee. We start the 2nd part of the route at 09.00h from Twann, it is then still [not so warm] and the number of bikers is limited. The whole route goes along the lake. So close to the shore, that for dog as well as for human being there is always the possibility to have a short refreshment. There are also always benches where you can linger, enjoy the great view or have a picnic. Unfortunately the railway line is only a few meters away from the path on certain sections. For jumpy and frightened dogs this is therefore not recommended. On the way you will find some great pubs where you can taste the fine wines of Lake Biel. In La Neuveville you will find the beautiful and noble restaurant Jean-Jacques Rousseau with a beautiful terrace and a great view over the lake of Bielersee, up to the other side of the lake where the village Erlach is located. The ambience is rather dignified and we were warmly welcomed on the terrace. Even water for the dog was offered to us. This route is also very suitable for children. Because there are so many bikers on the way, we had to lead our dog on a flexi-leash several times. The return journey can be made either by train or boat.
