With dog on ferry

During the holidays you would not want to miss our darlings. With the right planning, a trip will also be pleasant for your dog.

What you have to pay attention to, which tips we can give and how you can easily make a booking, we explain here.

Where should your journey go? Rather to the north, where you can go for long walks and dog walks in beautiful nature and pleasant temperatures, or rather to the south, where there are also dog-friendly beaches, and especially in the low season, a lot of attention is paid to the beaches.

How about a beach holiday with your four-legged friend in Scotland? Here he can stay on almost all beaches without a leash.
A trip to Scotland can also be combined with a visit to Holland, which is also considered to be very dog-friendly.

Enjoy the drive to Amsterdam, Ijmuiden, and stop at many interesting places where you and your dog can walk your feet/feet.
Your crossing with the shipping company DFDS departs from Ijmuiden in the evening. Enjoy the cruise feeling and check into your dog cabin. A dog toilet is available, but otherwise pets are not allowed in the public areas of the ship. However, your four-legged friend can make himself comfortable in his own cabin. The next morning you embark in Newcastle and your holiday on the island can begin.

Or you can travel to the south, whether it is a crossing to an Italian island (Sardinia, Elba, Sicily), to Corsica or Mallorca. We will find the best option for you and your dog.

For a trip to Greece by camper we recommend the offer Camping on Board. With it you can stay overnight in your vehicle and your four-legged friend does not have to leave his territory.

The possibilities of your holiday planning are manifold. Leave the ferry crossing in the hands of specialists, so that you do not have to clarify this part in a time-consuming way.

General information

Plan your trip early! There are usually many different routes and you must decide for yourself which one is the best. We will be happy to support you in making this decision with our knowledge.

We have over 30 ferry companies on offer and can list the advantages and disadvantages of each crossing.

Whether you prefer a short crossing where your dog can stay in the car or a longer crossing where your dog can be in the cabin or in a kennel.

The availability of dog cabins is very limited and must be requested early enough. However, they are available on many crossings and we recommend that you book them even for a day crossing so that you and your dog have a place of retreat.
On deck many ships have a dog station where you can sell your dog. However, do not forget that you are responsible for your pet's legacy. Dogs must always be kept on a leash and muzzles are mandatory on all ferries. On site you will rarely meet dogs with a muzzle. Do not forget it in your luggage, the ship's staff may ask you to use it.

Plan enough time on arrival. At the port, freedom of movement is usually limited and there are no green spaces. During longer crossings, a walk on deck is possible, but is of course subject to restrictions. During the journey you will certainly find enough opportunities to take longer walks, which your darling will enjoy.

Please remember to pack your dog his usual dog blanket, as well as a bowl of food and his favourite food. There should also always be enough water available, because taking care of your pet is your responsibility and the various shops on board do not sell pet articles.

Nausea and vomiting can also occur with dogs, have a veterinarian prescribe appropriate medication against motion sickness before the trip.
